About

Founded in 1923, John Burroughs School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school nestled in the heart of St. Louis, Missouri. Serving grades 7 through 12, our institution embodies a commitment to a liberal arts education that encompasses a rich blend of academics, arts, athletics, and community engagement. With a sprawling 50+ acre campus, we provide an environment where students can thrive academically and personally.

Enrollment

John Burroughs School welcomes 660 students, including 108 7th graders from diverse educational backgrounds. Our student body hails from 10 public, three parochial, and 10 independent schools, fostering a vibrant and inclusive community.

Our campus features state-of-the-art facilities, including the Brauer Building, the Science, Technology & Research (STAR) building, the Kuehner Fine Arts Building, Haertter Hall, the Taylor Family Athletic Center, and more. Outdoor athletic facilities complement our indoor amenities, providing students with ample opportunities for growth and development.

Grant and Scholarship

Admission to John Burroughs School is based on academic records, recommendations, entrance exam results, and personal interviews. We primarily admit students at the 7th and 9th grade levels, with limited openings for grades 10 and 11. We also offer tuition aid to support families with demonstrated financial need.

Achievements

Our students consistently excel academically, with achievements such as National Merit Semifinalist status and Presidential Scholar recognition. Income from our endowment and Annual Fund supports our mission of providing an exceptional educational experience to every student.
